Shopping fresh is a commitment. I am at the grocery store or at the local farmers market every day. I absolutely support buying local and supporting our local farmers and community. That being said, it's not the frequency of your visits, it's the quality of your ingredients. I'll have preservation methods for fresh veggies and how to store and utilize every part- STEM TO END!
I am two parts cook. I follow a recipe...loosely... and then, I "eyeball," ingredients, or constantly have substitutions! It is maddening when trying to recreate a meal but alas, this blog will do wonders for me in recipe retention. We will walk through each dish and discuss the ingredients, why they work well together and possible substitutions... if you just aren't a CILANTRO fan! You know who you are!
I love to test ingredients and my palate because it evolves with each meal. My kitchen is a revolving door of-- open the oven, shut the oven, chop the mirepoix, marinate the meat--REPEAT. But I truly love feeding my family and knowing that what they are eating is not only imparting great nutrition, it's also a team sport where we all have jobs and we all interact together. It's the heart of the house and the soul of the family.
